Edward Johnson Obituary

Edward James Johnson, Sr., 76, of the Joyner Swamp community of Horry County, passed on July 12, 2014 at McLeod Loris Hospital, after a prolonged illness. Mr. Johnson was born February 21, 1938, in Orange, NJ, a son of Anna Tkach Johnson and Lewis Dunston Johnson. He attended West Orange High School and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955. Serving aboard the USS Valley Forge (CVS-45) and at Charleston Naval Shipyard, he was honorably discharged as a Damage Controlman and an underwater welding specialist. It was during his time at Charleston Naval Shipyard that he met the love of his life, Mary Jeanette Goff. They wed on June 6, 1959 and were married for over 55 years. He retired from AVX Corporation in 2005 after 32 years of perfect attendance. He was a member of Berea Baptist Church.

Mr. Johnson was predeceased by a son, Edward James Johnson, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jeanette (Goff) Johnson of the home; one son, Edward Johnson (Paula Kuester), and one grandson, Paul Johnson, all of Yardley, PA; one goddaughter, Diane Cross of East Hanover, NJ; and many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visitation

Visitation will be held 6:00pm to 8:00pm Monday, July 14, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Home.

Funeral Service

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Berea Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Jenerette officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
