Mrs. Doris Irene Newport, age 89, passed away January 21, 2020 in Hickory, North Carolina.  Mrs. Newport was born November 29, 1930 the daughter of the late Charles Wesley Cauble and the late Lillie Strickland Cauble.  She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Taylorsville, NC.  Mrs. Newport is survived by her children, Cynthia C. Kite of South Carolina, Jacquelyn J. Garland of Arizona, Gene W. Newport Jr. of Delaware four grandchildren, Eugene M. Macogay, Janelle J. Jones, Derrace W. Baker, Jacqueline P. Garland, and several great grandchildren.  No services are planned at this time.
