Dorothy M. Inman's Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dorothy Thompkins Inman, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone.   Dorothy was born on June 5, 1944, and went home to the Lord on February 9, 2026.  She was the daughter of the late James Kelly and Ila Mae Durant Thompkins and sister to the late Paul D. Thompkins. She was also predeceased by her favorite nephew, James Thompkins, who was like a son.

Among the many milestones of a well-lived life is her family.  Dorothy would have celebrated, in a few short days, her 62nd wedding anniversary to her beloved husband, Benny Ray Inman Sr.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Benny Ray Inman, Jr of Florence, SC, and her daughter, Melinda (Paul) Rodgers of Buffalo, NY, whom she cherished.   She adored her grandchildren, Morgan (John David), Kelly, Marcella, and Colleen (Eric); her great-grandchildren, Jack, Marissa, Tyler, and Matthew (Ashley); and was excited when she became a great-great-grandmother to Juniper and Aspen.

Born and raised in Conway, through her journey, she touched many lives with her kindness, friendship, compassion, and her love of sharing God's word. She had friends from her time working at Aynor Manufacturing, Salley Cleaners, and of course, Wal-Mart.  Dorothy enjoyed teaching children, from teaching children's songs, such as Deep and Wide and I'm in the Lord's Army, to being a Girl Scout leader.  Besides being a teacher, she was known to attend school field trips with her children's class, sit in the audience, and cheer on her children and grandchildren, whether at a band concert, soccer game, football game, or hockey game.  One of her many proud moments was to attend her granddaughter's nursing school graduation.  She dedicated her life to the church, having served for many years as treasurer of the local and state Women's Auxiliaries. She enjoyed fellowship with her church family, even if much of it over the past year was done virtually.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, February 14, 2026 (her wedding anniversary), at Mt. Ariel Free Will Baptist Church, 4756 Highway 319, Conway, South Carolina.  Visitors are welcome to visit the family 1 hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 am.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dorothy's memory to her church, Mt. Ariel FWB Church, 4756 Hwy 319, Conway, SC 29526.
