Obituary

Era Lee Grainger Williamson, age 88, died on June 10, 2026, at Grand Strand Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was a faithful follower of her Lord, Jesus Christ, and was a deeply devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Born in Conway, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Ruby Isla Mishoe Grainger and grew up on a family farm in Galivants Ferry. She was a member of North Conway Baptist Church, where she served as a prayer warrior and was a member of the Winsome Sunday School Class. She worked for 40 years as a secretary and bookkeeper for Horry, Aynor and Midland elementary schools and embraced helping her community. She was a member of the Waccamaw Chapter #89 Order of the Eastern Star and served three terms as the Worthy Grand Matron. She was a former leader for Girls in Action in the Baptist Church. At the age of 16, she was the salutatorian of Aynor High School’s Class of 1954. She was a charming storyteller, a steward of family history and traditions, and a gifted gardener with a green thumb that could make anything grow. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Hoyt A. Williamson; a son, Chet A. Williamson; an infant daughter, Leesa Williamson; a brother, Grover Cleveland Grainger, Jr.; a sister, Sandra Dawn Grainger Shaver; and an infant grandson, Hoyt F. Pugia. Mrs. Williamson is survived by three daughters: Sheila Williamson Ray (Larry); Teal Williamson Britton (James Harding); and Leah Williamson Cartrette (Greg); six grandchildren: Logan Branch (Stephanie); Grainger Hendrick (Tori); Byrnes Britton; Wade Britton; Ruby Pugia; and Jeremiah Cartrette; four great-grandchildren: Will and Morgan Hendrick; and Grover and Isla Branch; a sister-in-law, Sharon Grainger; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished friends. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Antioch Baptist Church in Galivants Ferry at 3 pm with Pastor Will O’Brien officiating. The family will visit with friends briefly at the cemetery and also at Mrs. Sheila Rays home following the service. Instead of flowers please honor Mrs. Williamson's life, by making donations to a charity of their choice.
