Obituary

Mrs. Gayle Moore Skipper, age 75, of Galivants Ferry, SC is completely healed and resting in the presence of Jesus. On the beautiful fall afternoon of October 12, 2026, at approximately 2:00 PM, her peaceful baby blue bedroom became Holy Ground as the gates of Heaven opened and Angels came to escort her from her family’s loving embrace into the Arms of her Savior.

Gayle was born alongside her twin brother, Dale, on November 22, 1950, in Mullins, South Carolina, to the late Alton John Moore and Geneva Lee Martin Moore.

She leaves behind the love of her life, her best friend, and her husband of 52 years, Payne Wallace Skipper, Sr. Their love story began at the Aynor Butler Theater in 1963 at just 12 years old. They began dating in 1968 and united in marriage in 1974. Together, they built a life and a family, faithfully honoring the vows they made to one another. Their love was a treasured example to their children and grandchildren for what it means to choose each other, care for each other, and remain devoted forever.

Their family grew to include a beautiful, blue-eyed princess, Kelli Skipper Johnson and a handsome, strong prince, Payne Wallace Skipper Jr. Gayle also cherished Kelli’s husband, Sam, as her son-in-love, and Wallace’s wife, Danielle, as her daughter-in-love.

To her four beloved grandchildren, she was simply “Nana” – a name filled with love and a place in their hearts that will always belong to her. They are Thomas Payne Johnson (Lauren), Delana Danielle Skipper (Camden), Phoebe Lee Johnson (Taylor), and Stathan Wallace Skipper.

She is also survived by her brothers: Silvis Moore (Ruby), Rick Moore (Terri), and Dale Moore (Jeannie). Her sisters and compassionate care givers are Pat Johnson (Late Jimmy Ray), Debbie Dawsey (Carl), Tammy Price (Mark), and one bonus sister: Cindy Capps, which held her hand during her transition to Eternity.

Gayle’s life was also blessed by many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members, each holding a special place in her heart.

Gayle was a proud graduate of Aynor High School where she was a gun twirling majorette for the band. She held true to the Blue Jacket Alma Motto and delighted in cheering for her grandchildren in volleyball, football, and their many sports.

She was a faithful member of Pisgah Methodist Church and attended Horry Georgetown Technical College.

Coastal Carolina University held a special place in Gayle’s heart. After thirty-three years of dedicated service, she retired as the university’s Athletic Business Manager. Her love for the Chanticleers became even more personal when she had the joy of cheering on her grandson, Thomas, who wore jersey number 58.

Her favorite place was wherever her family happened to be. Whether cheering from the sidelines, riding with the top down in the “66” Mustang, sharing an ordinary day together, or surrounded by loved ones just at home, being with them was enough. They were her greatest joy, and she was theirs.

Gayle found fun playing games with her loved ones, treasuring the laughter and time they shared together. She also loved strolling through her yard on Old Camp Road, showing loved ones the blooming flowers she tended with pride.

Christmas was her favorite holiday. Each year, her everyday decorations gave way to sparkling Christmas décor, filling her home with the beauty and wonder of the season.

Gayle faced life as a roaring warrior with determination, a steadfast spirit, and a beautiful, contagious, radiant smile. As a loving wife, Mama, Nana, and friend, she made those around her feel loved. Even through her most difficult days, that familiar smile remained a precious gift to her family and a lasting reminder that joy and hardship can exist together. No doubt, she had the Lion of Judah roaring inside her

Her family finds comfort in knowing that the Savior she loved welcomed her home. Her suffering is over, her healing is complete, and the love she poured into her family will continue through the generations as family is forever.

The Homecoming Celebration service honoring Gayle’s life will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Pisgah Methodist Church (1600 Pisgah Church Road, Aynor, SC 29511) with the Reverand Dawson Price officiating. The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM, one hour before the service. She will be laid to rest following the service in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather briefly afterward in the church fellowship hall.

The family appreciates all the loving support and prayers that have been and continues to be extended. Please leave an encouraging word or memory for the family on our tribute page at www.johnsonfuneralhomeaynor.com.
