Jay Holbert, a dedicated entrepreneur and cherished member of the Horry County community, passed away on May 23, 2026, as a result of a boating accident. Born on October 9, 1976, in Conway, South Carolina, Jay was a beloved husband, father, son, and Big brother. Throughout his life, he demonstrated a profound love for his family and a deep commitment to his career and passions.
A graduate of Conway High School in 1995, Jay had a longstanding, meaningful connection to his alma mater. He was an avid outdoorsman who co-founded the Conway High School Bassmasters in 1992, was a member of the Conway Bassmasters since 1999, and the Carolina Anglers Team Trail (CATT) from 2010 onward. His enthusiasm for the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and running dogs, was a significant part of his life and brought joy to many who shared in these experiences with him
Being a 4th-generation accountant, Jay built a respected career with the family business, Holbert Company Inc., and was an entrepreneur involved in various businesses across Horry County and his local community. Beyond his professional achievements, he was known as a loving and devoted family man and as a collector, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for life’s details and memories.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shannon Nobles Holbert; their daughters, Jenna Holbert Nobles (Landon) and Breigh Holbert; cherished son to Joe Holbert and Tona Lambert Holbert; and a big brother to Lori Holbert King (Paul). He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Jennifer Nobles; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Chad and Laura Sarvis; as well as his niece and nephews, Spencer Sarvis, Layna Sarvis, and Dylan King.
Jay was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Wendell J. Holbert Sr. and Betty Jo Spivey Holbert, and his maternal grandparents, Frances L. Lambert and Irene Winburn Lambert.
A funeral service will be held on May 27, 2026, at 11:00 am at Salem Baptist Church, located at 4008 Salem Road, Aynor, SC 29511, with Rev. Randy Hilburn officiating. Following the service, a 1-hour visitation will be held at the church. A private burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Conway, SC.
Jay Holbert’s life was marked by passion, dedication, and a loving spirit that touched many around him. He will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on through the family he loved so dearly and the community he served so well.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of Mr. Jay Holbert to Salem Baptist Church Youth Fund, 4008 Salem Road, Aynor, SC 29511.
