John Allen Jr. Obituary Mr. John M. Allen Jr., age 80, of Aynor, SC passed away January 18, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Allen was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, a son of the late John M. Allen Sr. and the late Matilda Lesinsky Allen. He was a United States Army veteran who served in the military between the Korean War and the Vietnam War. While living in New Jersey, Mr. Allen was a Construction official and served on the planning and zoning board in South Plainfield, NJ, He taught Building Code at Middlesex County College, was a member of the rescue squad in South Plainfield, and was very active with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Carpenters Union and the Dock Builders Union. After retiring from New Jersey, he and his wife, Holly, moved to Aynor, SC, where he worked in the building department for the towns of Surfside Beach, Conway, and Aynor as a building inspector. He became a building inspector for FEMA and helped after natural disasters and he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Holly Allen; Mr. Allen is survived by one son: John Patrick Allen (Stephanie Bowen); two daughters: Carol Ott (Bill), Jennifer Allen-Nuzzi (Frank); one step daughter: Rachel Gurnavage (Frank); and nine grandchildren: James P. Nuzzi, Elizabeth Nuzzi, Kylie Ott, Matthew Nuzzi, Mikayla Ott, Rebecca Nuzzi, Lula Bowen Allen; Nyomi Ott and Kayla Gurnavage. A celebration of life for Mr. Allen will be held and announced by the family at a later date
