Michael S. Gause “Steve”, age 67, passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2026, in the arms of his loving family. A proud veteran, Steve served with honor in the United States Army from 1980 to 1987. His military service took him around the world, including deployments to South Korea and Germany, as well as time stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Rebecca Gause; three brothers; two sisters; and his beautiful baby grandson, Zaylin Mikah. Steve found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was happiest outdoors doing yard work or spending quiet afternoons tinkering in his shed. He especially enjoyed tending to his grapevines and took great pride in making delicious homemade wine to share. Steve was also a passionate, lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan who loved cheering on his team. A familiar face around town, he was a frequent shopper at KJ’s Market, where he loved greeting friends and strangers alike. Above all, his faith was a cornerstone of his life. He served as a Deacon and Sunday School Director during his many years at Grace Baptist Temple. More recently, he faithfully attended The Rock in Aynor. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Pamela Skipper Gause; his son, Jonathan Gause; his daughter, Ashlyn Gause; and his treasured granddaughter, Ky’Lanii Reign. All of them will forever cherish his memory, his guidance, and the deep love he had for them. Funeral services for Steve will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 27, 2027, at Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kelly Loadholt and Curtis Best officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Conway, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 1:00-1:45 PM at the funeral home.
