Rowland Byrd Jr. (John Henry) passed away on May 21,2026. He was known as John Henry to his family and friends. He was born on March 20, 1947, in Florence, SC. He was the son of the late Rowland and MaeBell Bryd. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, John Barry Bryd, two sisters, Diane Whitley and Annette Byrd. He was survived by his wife of 44 years, Garnette Bryd; a son, Theodore R. Lamont Jr.; daughter-in-law Jimmie Ann Lamont; two granddaughters, Laynee Lamont and Harley Byrd; sister, Jean Tyler; brother-in-law, Tony Martin; and sister-in-law, Diane Martin. He served in the US Army as a mechanic on Wheel and Track. He worked in textiles for 20 years. He went into business for himself, John Henry Hauling. He enjoyed NASCAR, riding and showing horses for competition, riding in his Jeep, and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of Homewood Baptist Church. A visitation will take place at Homewood Baptist Church from 2:00 – 2:45 on Sunday, May 24, 2026. Funeral services will follow the visitation, beginning at 3:00 PM, with Pastor Steve Cashion officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
