Shelvy Jean Carroll's Obituary

Mrs. Shelvy Jean Carroll, age 89, passed away October 3, 2025, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Carroll was born on March 14, 1936, a daughter of the late Frank and Ruth Hayes Taylor. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carroll was predeceased by her husband of five years: Hubert Britt; and her second husband of fifty-one years: Laverne Carroll; infant son: Mark T. Carroll; one brother: S. Frank Taylor II; and one sister: Judy K. Taylor. Mrs. Carroll graduated from Floyds High School as an honor graduate in 1954 and was Miss Dar and was awarded the American History Award and Civitan Award. After high school, Mrs. Carroll attended Coastal Carolina for two years where she received a Business Degree, a BA in Ed.-Arts. She graduated Cum Laude and was a member of Who's Who College and University. While teaching at Loris Middle School, she was named Teacher of The Year in 1986. She served her Lord all her life as bookkeeper, Secretary, Teacher, Farmer, Youth choir Director and a devoted and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great great grandmother. Mrs. Carroll is survived by three sons: Gene Carroll (Tammy), Mitchell Britt (Diana) and Taylor Carroll; one sister: Alice Faye Cartrette; eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Monday, October 6, 2025, at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Hilburn officiating. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Riverside Cemetery in Nichols, SC. Funeral services on Monday will be livestreamed at www.johnsonfuneralhomeaynor.com.
