Mrs. Vera Johnson Bennett, age 86, of Aynor, SC, passed away on May 31, 2026. Mrs. Vera was born on October 30, 1939, a daughter of the late E.L. and Bera Jane Johnson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vera was also predeceased by her husband, James S. Bennett; one son, Samuel James Bennett; one brother, Travis Johnson; one sister, Carolyn Drew; and her brother-in-law, John Drew. Mrs. Vera grew up in the Cool Springs section of Aynor and attended Aynor High School. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Vera attended Columbia Commercial College. In 1961, she married her late husband, and they moved to Alexandria, VA, and had a son in 1963. Their son, Sam, was born with cystic fibrosis, and Vera made sure that he lived to the fullest and had every opportunity and an education that his health would allow. Following her husband’s retirement as a teacher in Herdon County Schools, they moved back to the Charleston, SC area and lived at Pimlico Plantation. Mrs. Vera loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She cherished the old Hymns and served her church, Smyrna Methodist Church in Moncks Corner, SC, as the music minister for over 30 years. Mrs. Vera had such a great gift for making crafts, sewing, and loving people. She is survived by three brothers: James M. Johnson (Vera) of Florence, SC, Kennith Johnson (Jean) of Aynor, SC, and David Johnson (Gail) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, one sister-in-law, Judy Carroll Johnson of Aynor, SC, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Visitation for Mrs. Vera will be held from 11:00-11:45 AM, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Johnson Funeral Home, and all other times at the home of Kennith Johnson. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Dustin Hawkins officiating. Burial will be held at the Aynor Cemetery. Instead of flowers, the family wishes for you to make memorials to Embrace Hospice House, 175 Village Center Blvd., Myrtle Beach, SC 29579, or to Cool Springs Southern Methodist Church, C/O Nancy Jones, 2640 Garner Rd.
