George Wyand Obituary

George E. Wyand, born December 4, 1927, in Washington County, Maryland to the late Franklin E. and Dora Wyand.  George was preceded in death also by his Sisters, Dorothy Shorter and Mary Lou Neiser and his brothers, Glenn Wyand and Carol Wyand.  George will be seceded in death by one living brother, Richard Wyand.  In his younger years George resided in Hagerstown, Maryland.  George served in the United States Army. He was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church.  He was employed by Molar Pipe Organ and General Motors prior to becoming his own Real Estate Guru. George had a passion for old houses, woodworking, and labor in general.  He was a self-taught Master Carpenter, Plumber and Electrician.  He could remodel and rebuild everything he touched.  While living in Hagerstown George began buying and repairing older homes to rent. With much hard work, Faith and the support of his Wife and Mother, that house then became 8 rental properties.  George sold everything he owned in 1973, moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and purchased his first motel.  During his next 31 years as a Hotelier, he owned and operated several “Mom and Pop” motels before retiring on some farmland in the Galivants Ferry area. George became actively involved in his new Church, Pisgah Methodist Church and helped to build and repair homes through Salkehatchie. In his later years he became a self-taught Artist, donating his works to the Church for fundraising.  George was an avid Businessman and a harder worker.  He was strong in both faith and character with the desire to please the Lord, the ethics to always do right, the skills to lead; and, the Love to serve as the Father figure to his 3 Grandchildren.  George was always full of life and inspiration.  He was a positive influence, a modest and humble man who taught, loved and shared with anyone that crossed his path. He preached that you could do anything you set your mind to do and to always trust in the Lord.  Mr. Wyand had a strong and immense love for His Family.  His wife of 68 years, Marcia “Diane” Potts Wyand, was the love of his life.  George and Diane had one Daughter, Tana Wyand.  Mr. Wyand is survived today by his loving wife, Diane, Daughter and Son-In-Law, Tana and Barry Floyd; and, three Grandchildren, Nicole McPherson and Husband Eric, Michael Stewart and Fiancé Elaina Couick, Scott Richardson and Wife Jessica; and 6 Great Grandchildren, Shea McPherson, Derek McPherson, Lilah Stewart, Luke Stewart, Jacob Couick, and Camryn Richardson.  Services will be held 2:00 PM October 23, 2019 at Johnson Funeral Home of Aynor, with the Rev. Cindy Rumsey officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00-1:45 PM and after the service with a light reception.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Pisgah Methodist Church, PO Box 654 Aynor, SC 29511.
